The first Oxford College of the modern era, it was founded in memory of John Keble (1792-1866), well known for his best-selling Christian verse and a key member of the so-called Oxford Movement which sought to recover the Catholic heritage of the Church of England.
Keble Chapel is for everyone. Whatever you do or dont believe, you are welcome to come to a service, to hear our wonderful choir, or to drop into Chapel at any time for a moment of quiet reflection in a busy day.
Some parts of the University - particularly the oldest, most centrally located colleges - charge for or restrict admission but many can be visited absolutely free.
Butterfield. The original buildings of the College were designed by William Butterfield (1814-1900). Although the darling of the Tractarian movement, Butterfield was a controversial choice, as his style (a form of High Victorian Gothic) had long provoked argument in Oxford.

Keble College Note: Members of the public are welcome to visit the College main quad (Liddon quad) and Chapel. Occasionally during the year the College will be closed for College events so it is always best to contact the Porters prior to planning a visit.
There are two large common rooms, a caf, gym, laundry facilities and an onsite Porters Lodge open 24 hours a day. The rooms and facilities are grouped around a landscaped quad in the Oxford style. At the core of the Parks Road site are the Victorian buildings in unforgettable polychromatic brick.
