The DIBELS Phoneme Segmentation Fluency (PSF) measure is a standardized, individually administered test of phonological awareness (Kaminski Good, 1996). The PSF measure assesses a students ability to segment three- and four-phoneme words into their individual phonemes fluently.
The Phonemic Awareness Assessment was designed to give teachers and parents an indication of which students struggle with distinguishing and manipulating phonemes in words, show proficiency in phonemic awareness tasks, or exhibit extraordinary facility with phonemes.
The Phonological Awareness Screening Test (PAST) assesses skills in phonemic awareness. It is one component that should be considered along with the information from the screening assessment it is being used with. The PAST is a free resource. Administration Method The PAST is administered individually by the teacher.
The Heggerty phonemic awareness assessments allow teachers to gain information about a students progress with phoneme isolation, blending, segmenting, and manipulating phonemes.
For example, changing the phoneme /o/ in the word mop to the phoneme /a/ changes the word mop to map. Two of the most important phonemic awareness skills for literacy development are blending (joining speech sounds together to make a word) and segmenting (breaking a word into its component speech sounds).
