Most audiograms map the same components; frequency, intensity, right and left ear markers. They are placed on a graph like the one you see above. Frequency (also called pitch) is measured in Hertz (Hz) and read from left to right on the audiogram.
The numbers on the top ranking from 125 to 8000, are indicators for sounds frequencies. The higher that number, the higher is the pitch of the sound. On the left side, you can see the units for loudness, which is measured in decibels. Just as an example: A face-to-face conversation is about 65 decibels.
Audiograms typically test frequencies between 250Hz and 8000Hz. Human speech usually falls between 250Hz and 6000Hz.
The results of the hearing test are an indication for the degrees of hearing loss: Normal hearing: -10 to 20 dB. Mild hearing loss: 20 to 40 dB higher than normal. Moderate hearing loss: 40 to 70 dB higher than normal. Severe hearing loss: 70 to 90 dB higher than normal. Profound loss: 90 dB or more.

A familiar sounds audiogram, illustrated below, represents sound in terms of loudness and frequency. It also illustrates the range of phonemes in conversational speech as depicted in the lightly shaded "speech banana." Children with cochlear implants may be able to hear most of the sounds in the speech banana.

The Speech Banana is a term used to describe the area where the phonemes, or sounds of human speech, appear on an audiogram. When the phonemes are plotted out on the audiogram they take the shape of a banana, therefore audiologists and other speech professionals refer to that area as the speech banana.
Audiograms typically test frequencies between 250Hz and 8000Hz. Human speech usually falls between 250Hz and 6000Hz.
Speech audiogram The number of correct words is scored out of the number of presented words to give the WRS. A score of 85-100% correct is considered normal when pure tone thresholds are normal (A), but it is common for WRS to decrease with increasing sensorineural hearing loss.
