Meal components of the NSLP for Offer vs Serve include: Meat/Meat Alternate Vegetable Fruit Grains/Breads Milk. Students are offered the choice between 2 Entrees along with 2 Vegetables, 2 Fruit Choices and 2 Milk choices and a grain. Students must select cup total of fruit and/or vegetable components.
There are five required food components at lunch; fruits, vegetables, meat/meat alternate, grains and milk. Sponsors must plan lunch menus using the age/grade groups K-5, 6-8, K-8 and 9-12. Specific calorie levels are required for a meal to be considered a healthy school meal depending on the age/grade groups.
For free meals, household income must be under 130 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. Gross income includes all income from your job or self-employment, and other income like social security, disability, child support, workers comp, unemployment, and pension income.
