The major problem with AFFF is that it contains large concentrations of PFAS, a group of dangerous fluorinated chemicals. Exposure to PFAS, particularly if it is prolonged, can lead to the development of very serious diseases, including multiple types of cancer.
There are approximately 5,100 active duty military, 1,625 civil service employees, 13,000 retirees, 4,763 family members and 2,700 contractors on Keesler AFB.
Keesler Air Force Base is part of the Air Education and Training Command, and its primary mission, since 1941, has been training. The emphasis is on high-technology training in a number of fields, primarily in the electronics specialties. Keesler AFB is located in Biloxi, Mississippi on the Gulf Coast.
The Keesler Visitor Center is also the focal point for functions and special events for guests who do not have DoD affiliation. Only valid DoD ID cardholders are authorized to sponsor visitors onto Keesler AFB. Sponsors accept full responsibility for their visitors conduct while on Keesler AFB.

Keesler Air Force Base had its beginnings in 1940, when the city of Biloxi donated 832 acres of land to the Army Air Corp to build an air technical school to train aircraft mechanics. Activated in June 1941, the training center was technically named Air Corps Station No. 8.
Keesler is proudly home to the 81st Training Wing, the bases host wing, as well as Second Air Force, the 403rd Wing, the 85th Engineering Installation Squadron and Mathies NCO Academy.
