The ExAC is a paper and pencil examination and is delivered in four half-day sessions over a period of 2 consecutive days. Interns are given 3 consecutive attempts to achieve to pass all 4 sections of the ExAC. The dates and costs for the sections are set out on the ExAC website.
Pathway to Registration Complete a Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) accredited architectural degree program. Apply to the AAA IAP. Select a mentor to advise and guide you through the IAP. Select a supervisor to direct your work. Log experience hours using the Canadian Experience Record Book (CERB).
The vast majority of Architects complete a bachelors or masters degree in architecture from a university program approved by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB). An alternative way to become an Architect is through the apprenticeship offered through the RAIC Syllabus Program.
Employment requirements A masters degree in architecture may be required. Completion of a three-year internship under the supervision of a registered architect is required. Completion of the architect registration examination is required.
A Member must have been a member of the RAIC for at least five (5) non-consecutive years in the last ten years from submission date prior to nomination. Fellowship is bestowed for life and is one of the highest honours the RAIC can confer upon a Member.
