Cytopathology pairs well with many pathology subspecialties, particularly genitourinary, gynecologic, otolaryngologic, and gastrointestinalbasically anything except autopsy. So that also includes thoracic, head and neck, molecular, general surgical pathology, hematopathology, and soft tissue.
The Fellowship Program is 12 months in duration. For the clinical training, Fellows are assigned to the cytology diagnostic service approximately seventy-five percent (75%) of the time.
Pathology is traditionally divided into two primary areas, Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology. Anatomic Pathology, also known as Surgical Pathology, focuses of the examination of organs, tissues, and body fluids for structural abnormalities including autopsy examination of cadavers.
The Cytopathology Division provides diagnosis of exfoliative and aspiration cytology specimens using cytologic (i.e., minimally invasive) methods, supplemented in selected circumstances by immunocytochemical, flow cytometric, cytogenetic, and molecular genetic evaluation.
Cytology is one of three main sections in anatomic pathology. Its also called a branch, or subspecialty, of anatomic pathology. Anatomic pathology is the diagnostic study of diseases in tissues and various organ sites and their causes.
