The DEMMI is a mobility outcome measure that was recently developed in an older acute medical population (de Morton et al 2008b). It consists of 15 items and is scored on an interval level scale from 0 to 100 (de Morton et al 2008b).
The DEMMI score was categorized into four subcategories: very low mobility (DEMMI=024), low mobility (DEMMI=2739), moderately reduced mobility (DEMMI=4157), and independent mobility (DEMMI=62100). Patients were followed 30, 180 and 365 days after discharge for readmission and mortality.
The median DEMMI score of 41 was used as cut-off to classify patients as having a low (
DEMMI has 15 hierarchical mobility items that is rated with 2 or 3 response options. The ordinal raw score is 0 - 19 points, and the interval-level score is 0 - 100 points. In general, higher scores indicate better mobility, but there are no specific cut off score for this particular population.
Scores in the normal healthy range spanned from 0 to 200 for the overall MHQ, with an average score of approximately 100 (SD 45), and from 0 to 100 with average scores between 48 (SD 21) and 55 (SD 22) for subscores in each of the 6 mental health subcategories.

The DEMMI consists of 15 hierarchical mobility items: movement in bed (3), chair (3), static balance (4), walking (2), and dynamic balance (3). An interval score ranging from 0100, where 0 represents very poor mobility and 100 represents a high level of independent mobility, is scored by a physiotherapist [15].
