The 90th percentile in the Reading section, for example, starts at 31pretty high! Again, remember that this is the PreACT (youre in 10th grade after all!) If you score in the high-20s or low-30s on the PreACT, youre in good shape for an ACT score that will fly with highly competitive schools after some prep.
A 27 ACT score puts you a good deal about the national average (20.8) and makes you eligible for acceptance at a vast majority of schools. It also makes you competitive at some selective institutions, as well as eligible for merit aid! Considering those things, its easy to say that a 27 ACT score is good.
With a score of 27, you are in the 87th percentile of all test takers. More likely than not, with a score of 27, youll often be in or near the commonly accepted range at selective colleges. The exception may be the Ivy League where the score required may be higher than 30 on average.
A good ACT score ranks you higher than the majority of test-takers. As such, any composite score above the 50th percentile, or 19-20, can be considered a solid score. That said, a 20 wont cut it at many competitive colleges.
The 50th percentile would represent the median ACT score, which can be used to estimate an average scoreso approximately 19-20 on the composite and for each of the sections scores.

With study and hard work, you can be strong enough on the exam to get a 27even if your scores in a section or two are a little below that 27 target. To docHub that goal of 27, take some practice exams from the official ACT Test Prepration website or their official book, The Real ACT Prep Guide.
What colleges can I get into with a 27 ACT score? Youre eligible to apply to a vast majority of schools, including some selective ones. Among your Target institutions, you can include University of California-Davis, Temple University, and Louisiana State University.
