Home dialysis (CAPD ‐ continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis) is a do it yourself option that does not require a machine. It involves a tube permanently inserted through the abdomen to allow a fluid called dialysate to be emptied and replaced every day.
Continuous cyclic peritoneal dialysis (CCPD): Requires the use of a special dialysis machine that can be used in the home. This type of dialysis is done automatically, even while you are asleep. Intermittent peritoneal dialysis (IPD): Uses the same type of machine as CCPD, but treatments take longer.
CEPD is continuous and utilizes relatively long dwell times and thereby differs from intermittent, short-dwell acute peritoneal dialysis regimens which traditionally have been utilized in many institutions. CEPD typically involves two to six-hour cycle times and 1 to 2 L dialysate volumes.
You can do PD at home, at work, or when you travel. PD exchanges take about half an hour, but you can choose when to do them. Cycler PD lets you do your treatments each night while you sleep, so your days are free.
CAPD can be carried out by the patient themselves at home and does not require a machine. Dialysate is left in the peritoneal cavity for six to eight hours allowing for equilibration and then drained out and fresh dialysate instilled. This can then be performed three to four times/day.

People also ask

Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) CAPD doesnt use a machine for treatment and can be done during the day, but it must be done daily. It works by using gravity to help you do exchanges by hand. Most people do four exchanges a day.
The disadvantages of PD include: Must schedule dialysis into your daily routine, seven days a week. Requires a permanent catheter, outside the body. Runs the risk of infection/peritonitis.
What is it? Our kidneys usually filter and remove waste products and excess fluid from the blood. Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) is a way of replacing your kidney function, if your kidneys have failed, by using the membrane covering your internal organs (the peritoneum).
