The National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) is an industry-state-federal program for the improvement of poultry and poultry products. It establishes standards for the evaluation of poultry breeding stock and hatchery products with respect to freedom from hatchery-disseminated diseases.
The poultry products certified by the NPIP are hatching eggs, baby chicks, poults, and started pullets. The vast majority of U.S. states prohibit the entry of any poultry shipments except those designated as pullorum-typhoid clean.
NPIP Program Participation/Offerings in NC There is a one-time $50.00 fee to join the program, presuming yearly P-T Clean renewal and testing is maintained. Currently* this fee is collected at time of flock qualification by your Veterinary Program Specialist.
