  3. Input your Social Security Number(s) accurately to ensure proper identification.
  4. If you have paid taxes to more than one state, remember that a separate 511TX must be completed for each state, along with copies of the other state's return and W-2s.
  5. Fill out Line 1 with the total income from personal services taxed by both Oklahoma and the other state. Exclude any non-compensation income.
  6. On Line 2, enter your Oklahoma Adjusted Gross Income from Form 511 or Form 511NR.
  7. Calculate the percentage limitation on Line 3 by dividing Line 1 by Line 2; this cannot exceed 100%.
  8. Complete Line 4 with your Oklahoma Income Tax amount from Form 511 or Form 511NR.
  9. Multiply the amount on Line 4 by the percentage from Line 3 and enter it on Line 5 as your Limitation Amount.
  10. On Line 6, specify the tax paid to another state attributable to income reported on Line 1, excluding withholding amounts.
  11. Finally, enter the lesser of Line 5 or Line 6 on Line 7 and ensure all required documents are attached before submission.

When more than one state taxes the same income, you can claim a credit for taxes paid to the other state. The other state is usually the nonresident state. When you create a Resident state return and a Non-Resident state return, the program will calculate the credit for taxes paid to another state, if applicable.
The credit for taxes paid to another state is a nonrefundable credit that is automatically calculated in your account when you add a Nonresident return to your already created Resident New York return if you pay taxes to both New York and another state.
Who should file Form IT-112-R? Your client should file this form to claim a credit against their New York State tax if they resided in New York for all or part of the year, and they had income sourced to and taxed by: Another state. A local government within another state.
The Oklahoma 511-TX form allows residents and part-year residents to claim a credit for taxes paid to another state.
