South Carolina requires HVAC contractors to obtain a license in order to perform work legally within the state. The license is issued by the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Residential Builders Commission. South Carolina does not require HVAC technicians to be certified.
Exam applicants must pass the appropriate technical exam(s) prior to submitting an application to the Board. In addition, you will need to submit at least 2 years of work experience performed within the past 5 years. The Work Experience Affidavit is provided with the application and may be copied as needed.
