The ACHAs purpose is to be an organization of collegiate affiliated programs, which provides structure, regulates operations, and promotes quality in collegiate ice hockey. The ACHA currently has three mens and two womens divisions and includes approximately 450 teams from across the United States and Canada.
Depends on the level that you play at, Im on a mid-tier ACHA D1 program and it costs around $2500, and our ACHA D3 team is about $2000. I know many top end ACHA D1 schools have their players pay nothing. As for skill levels, the majority of ACHA D1 players have either played high level AAA or Juniors.
Because it is so common to walk onto an ACHA team, club hockey still offers great competition and training opportunities. However, it is important to note that playing in the ACHA is NOT free for most schools. Depending on the program, athletes could have to pay between a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars.
Players can participate only for the school they attend. Each ACHA student athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 by the beginning of a student athletes second year of eligibility.
