Section 9 of GW Act 1890 (1) If the application is with respect to the guardianship of the person of the minor, it shall be made to the District Court having jurisdiction in the place where the minor ordinarily resides.
Guardians are legal representatives appointed by a court to take care of individuals who are unable to take care of themselves. The person for whom a guardian is appointed is referred to as the ward. Wards can be either minor children or adults who are considered incapacitated.
It will take at least a month, usually longer, for the court to make a decision on you becoming a guardian. If theres an emergency and you need to act as guardian right away, you can file additional papers when you file your petition to be appointed guardian, or afterward, asking to be appointed temporary guardian.
A Guardian is someone appointed by the Court to manage the health and/or financial affairs of the Incapacitated Person. A Guardian may be appointed on an emergency basis, for a specified period of time, or for an indefinite basis. A Guardian may be a friend or family member, a professional Guardian or an attorney.
Guardianship of the Person: This type gives the guardian the power to make decisions about the wards personal lifewhere they live, what medical care they receive, and who they interact with. Guardianship of the Estate: This type allows the guardian to manage the wards finances, property, and legal affairs.
