When raising your rent, your landlord must provide formal written notice a call, text, or email is not enough at least 30 days before the increase can take effect. If the rent is more than 10%, your landlord must provide notice at least 90 days before the increase can take effect.
If you rent in the City of Los Angeles, your rental unit may be subject to the citys Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO), which regulates rents and evictions, if the property was built on or before October 1, 1978. Newly constructed units that replaced demolished RSO rental units may also be covered under the RSO.
In Hawaii, landlords can raise the rent by any amount and for any reason as long as they give proper notice, dont do so during the fixed term of a lease, and arent doing so for certain discriminatory or retaliatory reasons.
The amount that a landlord can raise rent in California in 2023 will depend on the specific local inflation rate and the individual rental property. Under AB 1482, landlords are limited to increasing rent by no more than 5% plus the local CPI (inflation rate) or 10%, whichever is lower.
30-DAY, 60-DAY AND 90-DAY NOTICES TO MOVE A 60-day notice is required if all tenants have lived there a year or longer. There is an exception to this rule. Only a 30-day notice is required if all of the following apply: You live in a house, townhouse or condo.
