Washingtons mini-WARN law, Securing Timely Notification and Benefits for Laid-Off Employees Act, becomes effective 07.27. 25. It requires employers with 50 or more employees to give a 60-day notice prior to certain layoffs or business closings.
Generally, Washington tenants must provide written notice at least 20 days before the end of their rental period (when their lease expires).
Once given, the tenant has 10 full days with which to comply, so any violations in that 10 day period cant be used to trigger the violation. If the notice is for payment of utilities or deposit, the tenant has 10 days to tender the money to the management.
A Legal notice is an ad that has been Court ordered or Judge mandated to run in a publication certified affidavit as proof of publishing. A Public notice, on the other hand, is one that is NOT court order or judge mandate but is required to run.
Landlord Notice Requirement: Must give at least 2 months notice, aligned with rental periods, under Section 21. This remains the statutory minimum until the Renters Rights Bill is enacted. Tenants Notice Requirement: Must give at least 1 months notice (if rent is paid monthly) or 4 weeks notice (if paid weekly).
