Confirmation and the reflective discussion Ultimately the responsibility for choosing the most appropriate confirmer lies with you, as a professional nurse or midwife. The NMC strongly recommends that wherever possible you obtain confirmation from your line manager or an NMC registrant who has effective registration.

Practice assessors and academic assessors can be registered nurses, midwives, and nursing associates, or in the case of prescribing programmes, any suitably qualified and experienced prescriber.
You need to be in a position to confirm that the nurse, midwife or nursing associate has met the revalidation requirements (see pages 12-20). Most confirmers will be the nurse, midwife or nursing associates line manager and be very familiar with the their practice.
You need to gather evidence of your practice hours. This should account for a minimum of 450 hours during the three years since your initial NMC registration or last registration renewal.
