5 Components of a Hazard Communication Program. The OSHA HazCom Standard outlines five key elements that employers must follow to ensure a safe working environment for their employees. These five key elements are hazard identification, labeling, safety data sheets, employee training, and program implementation.
All work areas that involve potential exposure to chemicals are part of the Hazard Communication Program. Copies of the Hazard Communication Program are available in the (Location) for review by any interested worker.
The six elements are pictograms (see below), a signal word (Danger or Warning), hazard and precautionary statements, the product identifier (product/chemical name), and supplier information. Supplemental information, such as an NFPA 704 hazard rating, may also be provided by suppliers.
The goal of the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) is to ensure that the hazards of all chemicals produced or imported are evaluated, and details regarding their hazards are transmitted to employers and employees.
The purpose of the Hazard Communications Program (HCP) is to ensure employees are aware of the hazardous chemicals in the workplace and are provided information regarding the potential hazards associated with exposure to these chemicals.
