Answer. Yes, bleach does require a Safety Data Sheet (SDS). The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandates that any hazardous chemical used in the workplace must have an SDS to inform users about the potential risks and safe handling practices.
To obtain SDS, get them from the manufacturer. They may be sent with the chemical order (paper copy or e-mail attachment). Otherwise, go to the manufacturers website and download it or request a copy.
Paragraph 1910.1200(g)(1) requires chemical manufacturers or importers to develop an SDS for each hazardous chemical they produce or import. Therefore, an SDS is required for each of the chemicals in the epoxy syringe and each of the chemicals in the amalgam capsule.
Any product that is considered a hazardous chemical requires a safety data sheet. A hazardous chemical, as defined by the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS), is any chemical which can cause a physical or a health hazard. This determination is made by the chemical manufacturer, as described in 29 CFR 1910.1200(d).
SDS are a must if a chemical is hazardous and is being supplied for use at work, whether in packages or not. SDS are also needed if your chemical is not classified as hazardous but contains small amounts of a hazardous substance.
