Step 2: Multiply total number of pixels by the bit depth of the detector (16 bit, 14 bit etc.) to get the total number of bits of data. Step 3: Dividing the total number of bits by 8 equals the file size in bytes. Step 4: Divide the number of bytes by 1024 to get the file size in kilobytes.
FILE SIZE is calculated by multiplying the surface area of a document (height x width) to be scanned by the bit depth and the dpi2. Because image file size is represented in bytes, which are made up of 8 bits, divide this figure by 8.
There are no limits on the size of the string (other than physical memory limits and processor address space limits). Depending on the number of channels and amount of data in the . txt file the maximum string limit is achieved when the . txt file is approximately 1 GB in size.
In Windows, right-clicking on any file, folder, or drive and choosing Properties will show the size. In an Explorer window, you can select Details from the View menu; or in a file open or save dialogue box there is a View button from which you can also choose Details.
Calculating bitmap file size. To find the size of a bitmapped graphic file, you first calculate the total number of pixels in the image and then multiply this figure by the colour depth. This means that the size of a bitmap image file will increase if either the colour depth or the image resolution increases.
filesize = (sampling frequency * bit depth * length) The calculated file size will be measured in bytes (because we have divided the answer by 8), the sampling frequency will be in hertz, the bit depth in number of bits and the length will be in seconds.
Counting words, lines, and bytes in files (wc command) To display the line, word, and byte counts of the file named chap1, type the following: wc chap1. This displays the number of lines, words, and bytes in the chap1 file. To display only byte and word counts, type the following: wc -cw chap*
Roughly speaking, each character in a text file adds one byte to a files size. To succinctly describe the sizes of larger files, we use the prefixes described in Table 8.1. For example, a file containing 52,428,800 characters takes up 5 , 242 , 8800 / 1 , 024 2 = 50 mebibytes , or 50 MiB on disk.
