Play the lower octave notes. This will produce the tonic (a D on the D whistle). Blowing too softly will make the note airy or nonexistent. Blowing too hard will produce the upper octave or a squeak. Blowing just right will create a steady, low tonic pitch. How to Play the Tin Whistle: 7 Steps (with Pictures) - wikiHow wikiHow Play-the-Tin-Whistle wikiHow Play-the-Tin-Whistle

Kiss those high-pitched nuisances goodbye and prepare for smoother performances ahead! The squeaking in a tin whistle can be caused by unstable air flow across the blade, inaccurate hole coverage, or inconsistent air pressure.
Tweaking means, simply, to change a whistle to try and improve it. This can be done by modifying the mouthpiece or tube in various ways. A classic simple tweak is to squeeze a Clarke mouthpiece a little more closed, so that it takes less breath. I say simple but Ive always failed at even that small of a tweak.
