Commas are tricky things, especially when subordinates and conjunctions are involved. If you can remember a few basic rules, a simple law of physics, and some common scenarios, you will be able to use commas correctly. I like to think of the different parts of our sentence as characters. Letamp;#39;s meet a few of them: the tiny conjunctions, the mighty subordinates, and the clever comma. Conjunctions are small and nimble. They are words that connect clauses, words, and phrases. You can easily remember the conjunctions by remembering the acronym FANBOYS. The conjunctions are for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so. Because theyamp;#39;re so small, more often than not, they require the help of a comma but not always. Subordinates, on the other hand, are the WWE heavyweight champions of sentences. They are words that connect two unequal things, dependent and independent clauses. Subordinates make it very clear what is being prioritized in a sentence. Commonly used subordinates are although, be

For example, the act of seeing a horse qualifies as an experience, whether one sees the horse in person, in a dream, or in a hallucination. Bracketing the horse suspends any judgement about the horse as noumenon, and instead analyses the phenomenon of the horse as constituted in intentional acts.
The comma rule is that non-essential information should be set off with commas, but essential information should not. I find that a little fear is the best seasoning, for my food, so I often sneak up on my husband while he cooks and frighten him.
Brackets [ ] are used to clarify or explain a part of the sentence that is not present, especially in a direct quotation. Examples: I read that novel [The Great Gatsby] in high school. Lisa said, [I] cant believe that he [Brad Pitt] is here!
The rule is this: a pair of bracketing commas is used to mark off a weak interruption of the sentence that is, an interruption which does not disturb the smooth flow of the sentence.
Writers commonly use commas before the second conjunction in the pair, but they shouldnt. For example: She not only completed the race, but also set a record. This is actually incorrect. It should be: She not only completed the race but also set a record. The same is true for either/or sentences.
A gapping comma indicates that you have decided not to repeat some words which have already occurred in the sentence: Jupiter is the largest planet and Pluto, the smallest.
Use commas after introductory a) clauses, b) phrases, or c) words that come before the main clause. Example: In the beginning, there was light. Use a pair of commas in the middle of a sentence to set off clauses, phrases, and words that are not essential to the meaning of the sentence.
Bracketing commas are used to mark additional information in a sentence. For example: These studies, in spite of their shared focus on locality, approach the topic from contrasting perspectives. You can check you have used these commas correctly by removing the bracketed section from the sentence.
