So the Dock is the strip of icons youll find at the bottom of your Macs screen. The Dock is divided up into three sections, divided by these lines that youll see here. The left most section contains apps. Its the easiest way to launch an app on your Mac. To launch an app just click its icon. So here Ive got the Reminders app. I click that and the Reminders app launches. Notice that when an app is running it has a dot underneath it in the Dock. You can customize the Dock to add the apps that you want. The easiest way to do that is in the Finder create a New Finder Window and go to your Applications folder. Then from there find the app that

Tip. You can get rid of that running program indicator dot, if you like. Open System PreferencesDock and turn off Show indicators for open applications. If you understand that much, then the Keep in Dock command makes a lot of sense.
Some apps are programmed to quit upon clicking the red 🅧 traffic light button, but most keep running unless you explicitly quit them by running the App Name Quit App Name command in the menu bar, or using the keyboard shortcut Command + Q , or right clicking on the app icon in the Dock and selecting Quit.
On your Dock, youll see that some apps have dots underneath them. The dots indicate that these apps are running right now. Even if you click the little red button in the top-left corner of a window, the app might keep running in the background if its beneficial to do so, like with an email app.
Tip. You can get rid of that running program indicator dot, if you like. Open System PreferencesDock and turn off Show indicators for open applications.

Remove an item from the Dock: Drag the item out of the Dock until Remove is shown. Only the alias is removed; the actual item remains on your Mac. If you accidentally remove an app icon from the Dock, its easy to put it back (the app is still on your Mac). Open the app to make its icon appear again in the Dock.
