Lets get to the details! Alcohol inks are transparent, highly-pigmented dyes that can be used on non-porous substrates. The color options are endless, and there are several brands available to choose from; my favorites include Copic, Tim Holtz, T-REX, Jacquard Piata Color, and Brea Reese.
Alcohol ink is waterproof, adding to its durable properties. These dye-based inks are transparent and extremely vibrant. Because of the transparent properties, you can play around with layering the inks. Once the first layer dries, you can add on additional layers to create depth and overlapping colors.
ARTnews RECOMMENDS. Jacquard Piata Colors and Sets. WE ALSO LIKE. Ranger Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks. ANOTHER OPTION. T-Rex Inks Starlight Shimmer 12-Bottle Set. A GREAT ALTERNATIVE. Copic Ink Refills. ALSO CONSIDER. Brea Reese Alcohol Ink and Sets.
How Is Acrylic Ink Different Than Alcohol Ink? Acrylic Ink is pigment-based, while Alcohol Ink is dye-based. When Acrylic Ink dries, the pigments bond to the substrate permanently and cannot be reworked.
91% isopropyl alcohol (or above) is very important for use with alcohol inks. Its what gets the ink to move and you use it to remove ink as well.
However, Acrylic Ink is good for many things and can be used to create some similar effects to Alcohol Ink in some cases. Additionally, Alcohol ink can fade with time if left in direct sunlight. Acrylic Ink, on the other hand, uses pigments that do not fade.

So I keep them in the alcohol ink tins from TimMoreHow Im storing. And organizing my alcohol inks. So I keep them in the alcohol ink tins from Tim Holtz and Ranger I really liked these tins they brought them out fairly. Recently.
Both ink types offer vibrant colors, but the translucency differs, with alcohol inks providing more watercolor-like effects. Acrylic inks dry slower, giving more time for manipulation, while alcohol inks require swift work due to quick drying.
