Toothpaste and Baking Soda She suggests making a paste using equal parts white non-gel toothpaste and baking soda. Apply the paste to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Gently rub the paste into the wood and let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe clean with a dry cloth.
Steps 1Clean the table. Use a damp cloth to thoroughly clean the table surface and remove any dirt or grime. 2Sand the table. 3Brush the dust off. 4Continue sanding. 5Use a finer grit sandpaper. 6Wipe the table with turps. 7Apply the first coat of varnish. 8Lightly sand the table.
Make your furniture wax stick better with the buffing process. Place the wax on your soft cloth and attach it to the end of the power drill. Start the buffing process one small surface area at a time, just like the basic waxing. Always wipe off the excess wax during the process.
In a bowl, combine one part toothpaste with two parts baking soda to create a thick paste. Apply some of the mixture to the white heat mark on your wood table and allow it to sit for a minute or two before wiping it from the surface. You may need to do this a few times in order for the stain to fully disappear.
Use wood fillers for filling in the scratches A wood filler is a solution of sandable material and hardening resin. It soaks into the wood fiber and bonds with it to fill up scratches. Using a wood filler is pretty easy as you only need to apply it on the scratch, let it dry and sand it down to make the surface even.
Mineral oil and pumice: combine mineral oil and powdered pumice to make a paste, then gently rub on to the scratch using fine steel wool. Remove the paste with a damp paper towel before buffing with a dry cloth.
Start out at 800 or 1000 grit, and work on up to whatever sheen you want. You can use MicroMesh or 3Ms Trizact products, probably others, all on your ROS or by hand. No wax required. Another option is to stop at 1500 or 2000 grit and then switch to automotive polishing compound.
To remove small scratches from a finished wood table, start by cleaning the surface with a gentle wood cleaner. Next, apply a wood polish or wax to the affected area and buff it with a soft cloth in the direction of the grain. For deeper scratches, consider using a wood filler before buffing.
