Create an AMI from EBS Snapshot To restore a terminated or deleted EC2 instance, you can create a new AMI (image) from the snapshot. Once youre able to create the image, launch an instance from this image to restore the instance.
Resolution Launch a replacement EC2 instance using Amazon EBS snapshots or Amazon Machine Images (AMI) backups that were created from the terminated Amazon EC2 instance. Attach an EBS volume from the terminated instance to another EC2 instance. You can then access the data contained in those volumes.

Restore the AMI from an EBS snapshot When you delete or deregister an Amazon EBS-backed AMI, any snapshots created for the volume of the instance during the AMI creation process are retained. If you accidentally delete the AMI, you can launch an identical AMI using one of the retained snapshots.
On the Amazon EC2 console, on the Elastic Block Store menu, choose Snapshots. Search for the snapshot that you want to restore, and select it. Choose Actions, and then choose Create Volume. Create the new volume in the same Availability Zone as your EC2 instance.
