The closing tick is an indicator of the price direction of a single stock or the market as a whole. It measures the difference between the number of stocks that were moving up in price and the number moving lower.
For example, each bar of a 1000 tick chart represents 1000 trades of any size. A tick can be a trade of just one contract/share, or 10,000 shares.
A point consists of ticks, which are the price movements that occur on the right side of the decimal when looking at the price of a futures contract. A tick is the smallest possible price change measured by markets. Markets have different tick sizes, and each ticks value varies by the futures contract.
Tick size is the minimum price increment change of a trading instrument. Tick sizes were once quoted in fractions (e.g., 1/16th of $1), but today are predominantly based on decimals and expressed in cents. For most stocks, the tick size is $0.01, but fractions of a cent may also occur.
A tick is a measure of the minimum upward or downward movement in the price of a security. A tick can also refer to the change in the price of a security from one trade to the next trade. Since 2001 and the advent of decimalization, the minimum tick size for stocks trading above $1 is one cent.
The tick index compares the number of stocks that are rising to the number of stocks that are falling on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The index measures stocks making an uptick and subtracts stocks making a downtick.

Stated in decimals. One point equals $100. Generally, minimum tick for options trading below $3 is $0.05 and for all other series, $0.10. For classes participating in the Penny Pilot Program, the minimum tick for options trading below $3 is $0.01 and $0.05 for options trading at $3 or above.
An up-tick means the last trade was at a higher price than the one before it and a down-tick means the last sale price was lower than the one before it. A zero-plus tick means the transaction was at the same price as the one before, but still higher than the nearest preceding different price.
For stocks, tick sizes are fairly straightforwardbasically, its dollars and cents times the number of shares.
