To get right to it, whether it's a manufacturer's warranty on a new car right from a dealership or an extended car warranty plan or vehicle service contract on a used car, it will not cover scratches, dents or door dings of any sort.
Wear and tear items like tires, fluids, and brake pads remain the owner's responsibility under a bumper-to-bumper warranty. Collision damage or dents and dings also fall outside of bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage. Also, bumper-to-bumper warranties typically don't cover a vehicle's interior trim.
The Hot Water and Plunger Method This method can potentially work, but only on certain-sized dents. Additionally, the probability of making the damage even worse is very high with this method. Hot water softens the material of the vehicle, so with too much pressure, you could potentially pop the dent too far out.
General wear and tear: Car insurance is designed to deal with sudden and unexpected events. It doesn't cover general wear and tear, which extends to dents, scratches, door dings, and overall paint damage that may occur over time.
Put the plunger over the indented area and pull straight out. Your dent should pop right out. If you're working on a bumper, you can also reach behind the dented surface to push the dent out. Repeat as needed until the dented area is flattened out.
Dents larger than 2” or multiple dents per panel will be considered damage. Dents smaller than 2” will be considered normal wear and tear if there are no more than two per panel.
To get right to it, whether it's a manufacturer's warranty on a new car right from a dealership or an extended car warranty plan or vehicle service contract on a used car, it will not cover scratches, dents or door dings of any sort.
Just because you can file a claim on a scratch or dent doesn't mean you should. Filing a claim may lead to an increase in your premium unless you have accident forgiveness. And if the damage is truly minor, it may not make sense to file because it could cost less to fix than the amount of your deductible.
An average accident can decrease a car's value instantly (and permanently) by 10 – 25% annually, whereas an accident that only creates light damage (such as light scratches or small dents that don't impact the paint) will only decrease its value by 5-15%.
The suction method is the most common method to remove a dent. But it is not the only dent removal method. Other removal methods include pounding a dent out from the backside and filling the dent in with compound, smoothing the compound and then repainting the panel.
