Every figure should appear flush with the left margin. Immediately below the figure, provide its number (e.g., Figure 1) in italics, followed by a period, followed by a brief but descriptive title (called a figure caption) in sentence case. For example: Figure 1.
Refer to the figure in your writing - no italics, but with capital F, for example In Figure 1 Copyright permission for using figures and images in theses/dissertations/exegeses - obtain written copyright permission from the copyright holder if you reproduced or adapted a figure from a copyrighted source.
Keep the following in mind when including a figure in your paper: The figure number, in bold text, belongs above the figure. The figure title belongs one double-spaced line below the figure number. The title should be in title case and italics.
Italic font, or italics, is a style of typeface in which the text appears slanted, like this. While italics are mainly used to draw attention to certain words or passages, the font also plays an important role in differentiating the titles and names of thingssuch as novels, movies, and even spaceshipsfrom other text.
A caption should always include: The word Figure (with a capital letter and in italics) A number (from 1, in numerical order) A title for the figure. An in-text citation for the reference of the source, which includes the Author(s), date and page number of the source, i.e. (Saunders et al, 2007:102)
Method 1: Font Style Options Select the text you want to italicize using the Selection tool (V). Open the Character panel (Window Type Character). Locate the Font Style dropdown menu. Choose Italic from the menu.
Figure Components Title: The figure title appears one double-spaced line below the figure number in Italic Title Case (no period finishing).
