[Applause] [Applause] the infection probably seems to be the most dreaded of our problems and the incidence fortunately if you look at situations when youamp;#39;re doing just a simple arthroscopy luckily is between somewhere between 0.03 to 0.3 percent and the variation in these can be from very simple superficial skin infections to even deep seated septic arthritis unfortunately when we look at the same situation after ligament or implant surgery this will definitely rise to almost about one percent and if you donamp;#39;t treat them in time youamp;#39;re going to have problems of movement as well as problems with cornrow damage and arthritis so the sequelae essentially that we are really concerned about especially after acl surgery are going to be those of stiffness contractures muscle loss muscle weakness muscle atrophy and of course of control damage and arthritis so the main causes why you would get an infection after an acl reconstruction would be if that part

The two types of anesthesia used in ACL surgery are general and regional. Your anesthesiologist, after talking to you and your surgeon, will decide the best type of anesthesia for you. All your options will be discussed on the day of surgery.
Many recent studies have shown that platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection therapy can be used to stimulate and promote tissue healing and repair which may be effective for ACL injuries.
What kind of anesthesia is used for ACL surgery? At HSS, most patients who undergo ACL reconstruction are given an epidural nerve block during their surgery, rather than being placed fully unconscious under general anesthesia. This epidural is the same type of regional anesthesia many women receive during childbirth.
Regional anesthesia (also called neuraxial anesthesia) is usually very well tolerated and represents a safe and effective method of anesthesia for total hip and knee replacement.
PRP Injections into the ACL Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been growing in popularity since it was discovered to have the potential to improve overall joint function, decrease pain and inflammation, and help the body repair itself via injections into damaged or diseased joints.
How Is ACL Reconstruction Done? Most ACL reconstructions are done under general anesthesia. So youll be asleep during the surgery and not feel anything. The surgery usually takes 2 to 2 hours, and you wont need to stay in the hospital overnight.
