hey everybody this is modern Refugee I want to talk to you guys tonight about a specific fire technique called banking a fire or banking holds and basically what it is is when you have a fire going um youll take wood ashes and basically cover up those coals to preserve that fire slow down the burn rate so you dont have to start another fire later and the old-timers would do this a lot with their wood stoves at the end of the day they would uh put wood ashes on top of the coals to preserve that so they wouldnt have to actually start the fire in the morning they would just scrape off the coals add more kindling to that and they would go ahead and add their kindling and their Tinder and whatever and then that fire would rekindle itself another thing thats really good for is if youre at Camp um if you want to go do something so you want to go pick berries for a couple hours but you dont want to have to start another fire let your fire die out youll take your coals youll scrape them
