The traditional top table layout is typically arranged in a long, straight line facing the other tables. There are eight chairs, with the bride and groom featured centrally, and the bride seated to the right of the groom, accompanied by the best man, maid of honour, and parents.
Reserving a seat for your photographers, preferably near the head table, gives them space to set down their heavy equipment, grab drinks of water, and eat a quick meal before the toasts, all within easy line of sight to the head table so that no important impromptu moments are missed!
Do wedding photographers stay for the whole reception? Many wedding photographer will have a cut off time, will be there for the cake cutting, first dance and get some shots of you and your guests on the dance floor.
No, photographers typically do not eat with the wedding guests. We are usually working throughout the meal and cant take a break to sit down and eat. Sometimes the bride and groom will ask if we want anything brought to us, but typically we just grab something quick to eat in between shots.
If its just myself taking the photographs, I would normally suggest that I am at the front of the ceremony so I see the bride walking down the aisle and I can also take photographs of your sweeter half waiting for you. I get both reactions and it makes for amazing and sometimes very emotional photographs.
The traditional way of taking table photos is to have the couple make their way around the venue, stopping at each table for a group shot of everyone at that table with the couple. Depending on how many guests are at the wedding, this could take up a lot of time during dinner.
Unless your photographer is there for less than a couple of hours or they have explicitly requested otherwise, you should plan to feed them. But, this doesnt mean that you need to feed them the same plate that your guests are receiving. In fact, most photographers dont expect to eat the same meal as your guests.
One of the more popular options for determining where a photographer sits during dinner is to stick us at a vendor table.
