I thought that we could talk about fractions. So , for instance, one over two. Also known as one half. Okay, so another one would be two over five, or two fifths. And then there are more complicated ones, like eighteen over forty-two, and, well, you know that there is something a little wrong here, which is that the top and the bottom, you can both divide them by two, and then you get that this is nine over twenty-one. And, oh, Im not done. And so its three sevenths. I wanted to do this example because all the fractions Im going to consider are going to be reduced like this. Namely, its going to be of the form p over q, where p and q are integers, and they are what we call coprime, namely that they have no common divisor. [Brady]: Weve cancelled them down as far as they can go. [Dr. Bonahon]: Thats completely correct, yes. And now, if you remember, with fractions you can do things: you can add them up, or you can multiply them. And multiplication is fairly easy because if I want

Viewing Saturns Rings The rings of Saturn should be visible in even the smallest telescope at 25x. A good 3-inch scope at 50x can show them as a separate structure detached on all sides from the ball of the planet.
Uranus has two sets of rings. The inner system of nine rings consists mostly of narrow, dark grey rings. There are two outer rings: the innermost one is reddish like dusty rings elsewhere in the solar system, and the outer ring is blue like Saturns E ring.
All four giant planets in our solar system Saturn, Neptune, Uranus and also Jupiter do in fact have rings. However, both Neptune and Jupiters rings are so flimsy theyre difficult to view with traditional stargazing instruments.
Discovered in 1979 by NASAs Voyager 1 spacecraft, Jupiter has rings, but unlike Saturns ring system, it is much smaller. Its rings are very faint and cannot be seen in amateur telescopes. They consist of tiny particles as a result of collisions between Jupiters moons and meteorites.
Saturn is a funny-looking planet. True, its not the only planet with rings. Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune have rings, too. But Saturns rings are the biggest and brightest.
However, the rings are far too faint to be seen easily from Earth. In fact they were only discovered in 1979 during the flyby of Voyager 1. Nonetheless Jupiter is a great sight to see with a pair of binoculars or a small telescope, when it may be possible to see one or more of its larger moons.
The planet Jupiter has a system of faint planetary rings. The Jovian rings were the third ring system to be discovered in the Solar System, after those of Saturn and Uranus.
