Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. Im going to show you how to create awesome torn, paper hole portraits from photos. I provided this paper hole template so you can follow along. Its link is in my videos description or project files. It includes two layers - this png image of torn paper with a transparent hole in the center and the a png image of just the torn, curled edges. Open a high-resolution, close-up color photo of a face youd like to use for this project. I downloaded this one and the other from Shutterstock. Before we begin, if you want to know as soon as I upload new Photoshop tutorials, smash that Subscribe button and please remember to click Like. The first step is to separate our subject from its background. There are many ways to do this depending on the characteristics of your photo and the version of Photoshop youre using. In versions CC 2020 and later, unlock the background and open the Properties panel. If you dont see it, go to Window and Proper

Pencil Power A regular pencil allows you to trace any paper-based image onto another sheet of paper or even onto wood and cardboard -- it works on any surface that you can write on easily with a pencil. Rub a dull, soft pencil tip over the back side of the paper containing the image you wish to trace.
Place a sheet of graphite transfer paper graphite-side down atop the project surface, then place the original image atop the graphite paper. Trace the details of the image with a ball-point pen or dull pencil. Graphite from the transfer paper rubs off onto the project surface and can be erased, if necessary.
Position your printed paper on your notebook page, and then secure the top with washi tape. Using a pen or pencil trace over your design. The pressure of tracing this design will transfer the pencil on the back of the paper onto your notebook.
Tracing paper comes in different thicknesses. The thinnest is c. 60gsm (grams per sq metre), too thin and fragile for display itself and will buckle a lot while working. It is cheaper of course, so this paper is most often used for working drawings or roughs.

Tracing paper is a semi-transparent paper you can use to trace an image or drawing. Once youve traced an image onto tracing paper, you can easily transfer it to another piece of paper or even a canvas. Just make sure youre using a graphite pencil so your drawing shows up clearly when you transfer it!
