good afternoon my name is Ben Schmitt staff scientist at physical electronics today Iamp;#39;ll be discussing how to characterize the electronic band structure using ups and lifeamp;#39;s as options on the versa probe three multi technique XPS system to motivate this work I want to show the schematic of a basic opto electronic device which could be something like a photovoltaic solar cell or a light-emitting diode for a flat panel display these devices typically consist of multiple layers and each layer has a specific function for how it handles electrons and holes to produce the desired outcome when designing such a device we need to know what the electrical parameters of each of the individual component layers are often we will reference energy to the vacuum level and then we have several parameters we can use to define the behavior of each layer as shown here in the diagram on the Left I have a basic device consisting of two electrodes and two semiconducting layers the electrodes

XPS insulation boards come in various dimensions and are easy to cut. The simplest way to cut XPS foam straight and cleanly is to use a saw.
It can be cut, sanded, plastered, or painted after twelve hours and will be fully cured in 12 -24 hours. If exposed to sunlight, the foam should be painted or coated.
A useful feature of XPS is that it carves like wood and is easy to sand but please wear proper PPE as XPS foam dust gets in the air, your eyes, and lungs easier than EVA dust does.

Various tools, such as hand saws, hot wire cutters, long blade utility knives, and jigsaws, can be used for cutting polystyrene insulation.
XPS foam is a lightweight, closed-cell foam with a smooth, rigid surface. It is commonly used in construction and crafting projects due to its excellent insulating properties and ease of shaping. However, its smooth surface can be challenging to sand effectively without the right tools and sandpaper.
The dust from cutting with saws and sanding EPS foam is more harmful than the fumes encountered while cutting foam with a hot wire tool. Always wear a good quality dust mask when saw cutting or sanding polystyrene foams.
