Laser treatment: A powerful laser uses light to burn away abnormal tissue. Excisional surgery: Your healthcare provider may recommend cutting the abnormal tissue out of your body. For cervical dysplasia, you may need a loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) or a cold knife cone (CKC) excision.
The test checks for abnormal cells in the cervix that are cancerous or have the potential to become cancerous. During a Pap smear, your healthcare provider takes cells from your cervix to examine under a microscope for signs of cancer. A Pap smear may also detect certain infections and inflammation.
Epithelial cells are always making copies of themselves. High-risk HPV might cause epithelial cells to change (become abnormal), so they dont look like normal cells.
Epithelial cell abnormalities This means that the cells lining the cervix or vagina show changes that might be cancer or a pre-cancer. This category is divided into several groups for squamous cells and glandular cells.
Inflammation is a very common finding on a Pap smear. It is probably only docHub when it is obscuring or severe. Inflammation on Pap smear may reflect a genital tract infection or may be nonspecific (Fig. 8).
A raised amount of epithelial cells in the urine can be a sign of a minor infection, such as a UTI or yeast infection. Anyone with urinary symptoms needs to contact a doctor for a urinalysis and a proper diagnosis.
In the cervix, parakeratosis/hyperkeratosis is known to be associated with uterine prolapse, chronic irritation and inflammation, diaphragm or pessary use, and posttherapy. 9 It grossly presents as focal or diffuse thickened white plaque; when visualised under colposcopy, it will generally be subjected to biopsy.
Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US): This is the most common abnormal Pap test finding. It means that some cells dont look completely normal, but its not clear if the changes are caused by HPV infection.
