Encounter for pregnancy test, result negative Z32. 02 is a billable/specific ICD-10-CM code that can be used to indicate a diagnosis for reimbursement purposes.
A pregnancy test performed on the same date as a preventive service may be reported separately using the CPT code appropriate to the test (e.g., 81025, “Urine pregnancy test, by visual color comparison methods”) and a diagnosis code from the V72. 4X series (pregnancy examination or test).
When taking a pregnancy test, any line in the test indication area is considered a positive pregnancy test, even if it is lighter than the control line. The darker line is usually the control line.
The test line can be darker than the control line once your HCG level rises; it's normal and nothing to be concerned about.
In many cases, when you are using a First Response™ test, the test line may be a fainter pink than the control line, which is sometimes quite dark. A test line can be faint pink if your urine is diluted or it's very early in your pregnancy. Not-to-worry, though.
If the pregnancy is incidental to an encounter for a different reason, code Z33. 1 (pregnant state, incidental) is assigned in place of any Chapter 15 codes. When treating the pregnant member, the codes in Chapter 15 of the ICD-10 codes set are applied before codes from other chapters.
Pregnancy test results should get darker early on as a pregnancy progresses. If your pregnancy test results seem to be getting lighter, it could be because you tested after drinking water and your urine was more diluted. Or, the first test result could have been an evaporation line and not a positive result.
Intralaboratory (Internal) Quality Control. QC testing is performed within a laboratory to monitor and ensure the reliability of test results produced by the laboratory. Control materials (usually liquid controls) are used to monitor the test system and verify that quality patient test results have been attained.
Encounter for pregnancy test, result unknown Z32. 00 is a billable/specific ICD-10-CM code that can be used to indicate a diagnosis for reimbursement purposes. The 2023 edition of ICD-10-CM Z32. 00 became effective on October 1, 2022.
A pregnancy test works by detecting the hCG hormone, which is usually only present in your body if you're pregnant. Your hCG levels will increase over time if you are pregnant. A negative pregnancy test result means the test hasn't detected hCG in your urine.
