In most cases, you need a court's approval to amend or revoke an irrevocable trust. The trustee must petition the court to make an appropriate change.
A revocable trust provides a way to ensure the continued management and preservation of your assets, should you die or become incapacitated, and allows the avoidance of a probate court proceeding after your death.
No Asset Protection – A revocable living trust does not protect assets from the reach of creditors. Administrative Work is Needed – It takes time and effort to re-title all your assets from individual ownership over to a trust. All assets that are not formally transferred to the trust will have to go through probate.
Whilst some corporate trustees have a general account holding all of the monies belonging to the trusts that they administer, they are required to have separate (sub) accounts for each trust.
Revocable Living Trust - Do You Need One? Suze Orman explains why everyone needs a living revocable trust to protect their health and finances.
To modify an irrevocable trust, you can either decant the trust or initiate a court procedure through a California probate court. With the latter, you will need to petition the court to allow the modification to the irrevocable trust. It is also possible to include a trust protector provision in an irrevocable trust.
Some of your financial assets need to be owned by your trust and others need to name your trust as the beneficiary. With your day-to-day checking and savings accounts, I always recommend that you own those accounts in the name of your trust.

Some of the Cons of a Revocable Trust Shifting assets into a revocable trust won't save income or estate taxes. No asset protection. Although assets held in an irrevocable trust are generally beyond the reach of creditors, that's not true with a revocable trust.
By definition and design, an irrevocable trust is just that—irrevocable. It can't be amended, modified, or revoked after it's formed.
