What exactly is a contract clause? The easiest way to think about a contract clause is to first understand that its a written portion that exists to do a legal-specific job. In other words, a clause in a contract is a unique section that addresses a specific need, privilege, right, deadline, or duty.
For example, a clause might specify a deadline, require written notice of a change, outline a service to be provided, restrict a signer from disclosing confidential information, or explain what will happen if one of the parties fails to uphold their responsibilities.
A clause is a specific point or provision in a law or legal document. It can be an article, section, or standalone paragraph that addresses any topic pertaining to the document that contains it.
The sentence When it rained they went inside consists of two clauses: when it rained and they went inside.
Independent Clauses It expresses a complete thought and has both a subject (who) and a verb (what/action). It usually ends with a period but can sometimes end with exclamation points or question marks. Example: I enjoy visiting the Writing Center. Example: Paul tutors science in the Learning Commons.
Because a clause expresses an action or a state of being, a clause can oftenbut not alwaysfunction as an independent sentence. A sentence can have just one clause or it can have multiple clauses. The only defining characteristic of a clause is that it must contain a related subject and verb.
In Word, the word processor may insert an extra hard return at the end of a new clause. To fix this, select the clause at the clause library and click Edit. The Clause Editor appears, where you can click Edit Clause Text. When your text appears, delete the extra hard return.
