The best reference is from someone who has high regard for your work, knows you well and is a good writer. Ideally, your reference should be able to evaluate your performance in the same way and in the same language as law schools admissions committee members evaluate students in their program.
Can You Use the Same Recommendation Letter for Multiple Law Schools? Yes, you can use the same letter of recommendation for multiple law schools. If youve asked for general recommendations, you should tag them as General References in your LSAC application.
Most law programs require two or three reference letters for admission, although they may accept more than just three.
You may submit applications before LSAC has the letter on file, but if a law school requires letters of recommendation your file will not be deemed complete without the minimum number of letters, and your application will not be reviewed without them.
You are allowed to submit your application before your counselor or teachers submit their school forms whether they choose to do so online or on paper. The Common Application system allows recommendations to be submitted even after the application has been submitted.
If you intend to reuse a letter of recommendation for an admission year other than the one for which it was written, or for a different law degree program, it is a good idea to contact the recommender as a courtesy to make sure that the person does not mind this reuse.
Your assigned LORs will be sent as part of your CAS Report to the law schools to which you apply, so you need not delay the submission of your applications while waiting for your letters to be received.
Do I need to wait until my letters of recommendation are in to submit my application? No! We encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible. However, please note that an application is not considered complete and ready for review until at least two letters of recommendation have been submitted.
