In this video, Joshua Bardwell presents the new DJI Avata 2 and DJI Goggles 3, exploring their features and significance for FPV (First Person View) drone enthusiasts. The tutorial includes a disclosure that the products were provided by DJI for review, highlighting that this is a common practice in such evaluations. The focus is on showcasing what these new products have to offer to the FPV community, although details of their specific functions and improvements are not included in the text provided. The transition between the dark- and the light-adapted states of the photoreceptor is accompanied by two docHub changes in the physiological properties of photoreceptors. First, light-adapted photoreceptors are less sensitive to light, preventing them from becoming blind at high light intensity levels.
A lot of the adaptation occurs in the photoreceptors themselves. Part of the adaptation within the photoreceptors is due to photopigment bleaching - less photopigment available at high light levels results in weaker responses to light increments at those high light levels.
the process by which the eye adjusts to conditions of high illumination, as occurs when a person exits a dark theater into a sunny parking lot.
Adaptation is the adjustment of the eye to different luminances. When changing from light to dark and vice versa, adaptation is initially performed by enlarging or reducing the pupil. Most of the adaptive capability is provided by two photoreceptors on the retina.
With light adaptation, the eye has to quickly adapt to the background illumination to be able to distinguish objects in this background. The process for light adaptation occurs over a period of five minutes. The photochemical reaction is: Rhodopsin ⇌ retinal + opsin.
Its much faster for our eyes to adapt to bright light than to adjust for the darkness. Cones attain maximum sensitivity in five to seven minutes while rods require thirty to forty-five minutes or more of absolute darkness to attain 80% dark adaptation. Total dark adaptation can take many hours.
Light adaptation occurs at all levels of the visual system, from photoreceptors to central neurons. Yet, the function of the entire visual system depends on the ability of the photoreceptors themselves to adjust their sensitivity to the ambient lighting situation.
The retina adapts to average light intensity but also to the range of light intensities (contrast). A study by Baccus and Meister, in this issue of Neuron, identifies three ways that ganglion cells and interneurons adapt to high contrast: shorten integration time, reduce gain, and depolarize.
Therefore, in the vision science literature in general, dark adaptation is defined as the slow recovery of the sensitivity of the visual system after exposure to very bright light followed by a rapid (sudden) transition to darkness, usually with a controlled pupil size [5].
Light adaptation is the process of adjusting to bright light after exposure to dim light. This process often takes a minute or two to be completed. Dark adaptation, on the other hand, refers to the process of adjusting to dim light after exposure to bright light.
