Commonly Asked Questions about Options Packages

Most car trim levels with an L (EX-L, LX, LE, SEL, etc.) are luxury trim packages. Trim levels with names like Platinum, Premium, or Limited usually represent higher-end packages, often (but not always) at the top of the range.
In terms of features, top trim will get you the most options. The top trim level should provide either the most equipment or the best performance sometimes both. It may also be the only trim level to offer certain luxuries, such as a higher-grade leather, a costly audio system, or ventilated seats.
An option package is a selection of features that can be added to a trim level for an extra cost. Not all vehicles have them. But for those that do, option packages tend to bundle features that logically go together.
Trim levels are often designated by a pair of letters; for example, DX, LX, LS, EX, GL, SE, or GT. They can also be designated an alphanumeric code (e.g., Z28, XR5, GT3), or using a word (e.g., Executive, Ambition or Deluxe).
Base, mid-, and high-end are the most commonly used trim levels, but some manufacturers opt to use specific letter combinations as a moniker to differentiate between trim levels. These designations are often found on the cars aft, usually near the model name.

Car trim types or levels refer to different pre-packaged groups of features for a particular car. The base model is the cheapest, standard offering that includes the least amount of features. Higher trim levels usually cost more and include additional features, technology, and performance enhancements.
