The USCG captains license is good for a lifetime! However, the Coast Guard requires you to renew the OUPV/Six-Pack or Masters license up to 100 GRT every 5 years. If youre unable to renew the license within 5 years, the Coast Guard offers a 1-year grace period.
ALL other Merchant Mariner Credential applications should submit your completed ;CG-719B and supporting documentation directly to NMC at: MMCApplications@uscg.mil. NOTE: Your Medical Certificate applications (CG-719K or CG-719K/E) should only be sent to MEDAIP@uscg.mil for processing.
How do I put my credentials into Continuity? You submit a CG-719B form and check the Document of Continuity box in Section II.
What is the grace period? An expired MMC may be renewed during an administrative grace period of up to 6 years beyond its expiration date. A credential may be renewed at any time during its validity and for 6 years after expiration. A mariner may not serve under the authority of an MMC past its expiration date.
How long after its expiration can a Coast Guard credential be renewed without retaking the complete original exams? Your credential can be renewed within 72 months (6 years) after it expires.
