PRIVATE PARTY VEHICLE USE TAX Any person who purchases or acquires by gift or transfer a motor vehicle from a private party within or outside Illinois and the vehicle will be titled to an Illinois address must pay a vehicle use tax.
You must complete Form RUT-25, Vehicle Use Tax Transaction Return, if you are titling or registering in Illinois a motor vehicle (including all-terrain vehicle (ATV)), trailer, manufactured (mobile) home, watercraft, aircraft, or snowmobile that you purchased from an unregistered out-of-State dealer or retailer.
RUT is a tax deduction on services around the house, most often used for cleaning services or babysitting. It is an addition to the ROT tax deduction that has existed for some time. It can be used for the labour portion of the cost for building and renovation services.
