If you are an employee who earned employment income in a province or territory other than Quebec, you can elect to stop contributing to the CPP by completing Form CPT30, Election to Stop Contributing to the Canada Pension Plan, or Revocation of a Prior Election.
If you are self-employed, you have to pay both the employee and the employer portions of the CPP contributions. Once you reach 70, you will stop making CPP contributions.
Because CPP contributions cease on any income over $58,700, this is known as the maximum pensionable earnings amount (YMPE). This is why many workers see an increase in their take-home pay at some point during the year.
You can fill out this form only once in a calendar year. Once you file this form with your employer, you cannot make a change until the next calendar year.
