Schwartz Personal Values Questionnaire (SPVQ) The SPVQ measures 10 individual values as based on the research of Professor Shalom Schwartz. In over 30 years of peer reviewed research, Professor Schwartz identified ten dominant basic personal values that are consistent across societies and cultures.
Schwartz and colleagues have theorized and shown empirical support for the existence of 10 basic individual values (Schwartz, 1992; Schwartz and Boehnke, 2004). These are: Conformity, Tradition, Security, Power, Achievement, Hedonism, Stimulation, Self-Direction, Universalism, and Benevolence.
Some examples of values include honesty, compassion, creativity, and perseverance. You can ask what do you believe in? What is important to you? What motivates you? You can also look up other lists of values to help you generate ideas.
Why it is important to identify your values What are your hot buttons? What gets you going? What do you spend most of your time talking about passionately ? What are your strengths? What is effortless for you and you have noticed that it is often difficult for others? How do you spend time and money?
One of the easiest ways to identify values is to ask yourself questions like: What is important to me? What would a perfect day look like? What values are represented in this choice? What do I spend my free time on? What do I enjoy doing? What would I do if there were no limitations?
