Airlines may require: (1) a U.S. DOT form attesting to the animal's health, behavior, and training; and. (2) a U.S. DOT form attesting that the animal can either not relieve itself or can relieve itself in a sanitary manner, if the animal will be on a flight that is 8 or more hours.
Once you've submitted your form and it's been approved, we'll send you an email with your Service Animal ID (SVAN ID). You can add the SVAN ID when booking future travel with this animal and be approved without resubmitting forms.
Airlines can request specific documentation and/or 48-hours advance notice for emotional support animals and psychiatric service animals.
American Airlines also welcomes service animals on all flights, at no additional charge to the passenger. Under the airlines cabin rules, the animal must be able to fit on the lab, or under the seat of the passenger. All service animals are expected to be well groomed and well behaved at all times.
