Interprofessional education (IPE) means that students and professionals are learning about, from, and with others from different disciplines. This is a vital part of preparing aspiring and existing audiologists and SLPs to work in any setting.
Interprofessionalism, including interprofessional collaborative patient-centered practice and team-based care, is the practice of working with practitioners from different disciplines as well as the patient/family in a collaborative relationship to deliver coordinated healthcare.
IPCP involves more than different health care providers applying their unique skills and knowledge to the management of a patient. Collaboration occurs when individuals have mutual respect for one another and one anothers professions and are willing participants in a cooperative atmosphere.
Values and ethics, roles, and responsibilities, interprofessional communication, and teams and teamwork are the four key competencies outlined.

It allows patients to be a key contributor to their plan of care, the goals for their care and their anticipated date of discharge.
