When it comes to durability, stainless steel is generally the most robust option, suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations. Plastic traps, although not as enduring under stress, can still be quite durable and are often selected for their lower cost and easier installation.
The maintenance log serves as a record of the frequency and volume of cleaning the interceptor. It is required by the pretreatment program to ensure that grease trap/interceptor maintenance is performed on a regular basis.
There are a few different ways grease trap waste can be recycled. One method involves the waste being stored in pits, where water has an opportunity to evaporate and the FOG waste can solidify. This solidified waste can be mixed with sawdust, moss and wood chips containing microbes and left to compost.
One common method is to collect the oil in designated containers and have it picked up by a licensed grease recycling company. These companies then recycle the oil into products like biofuels and animal feed.
You can use a ladle or small bucket to scoop up the grease collected on the surface of the trap. Youll need to keep an appropriate container beside you for this job and cover the flooring as well to avoid splashes. Once the sludge has been removed, you can now use the wet vac on the more liquid contents.

For small grease traps (eg. those installed under individual sinks), the grease trap waste could be removed manually by scooping it into watertight plastic bags and disposed of together with other kitchen refuse.
Grease trap waste is processed to separate the grease, water and sludge. The sludge can be reused by organic processing facilities in their composting process, the residual material can also applied to agricultural pastures. Water separated from the grease trap is disposed of as a trade waste down the sewer.
*The 25% rule should be observed: When the FOG layer and Food Solids layer are 25% or greater than the depth of the tank then it needs to be pumped. Why? Reduced removal efficiency, and shortcircuiting. Sometimes you cannot access interceptor Manhole!
